I ate a majority of my meals in my college dining hall throughout the year. But what happens when I can’t make it there before it closes?
I bust out my favorite snacks.
My dad used to call me the snack queen and that nickname hasn’t disappeared yet! Here are a few of my favorite snacks to eat when my meal times are cut short.
Skinny Pop Popcorn
Popcorn is my favorite food of all time but all the calories aren’t super great. I love this snack because it doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients, preservatives, gluten or trans-fat, and a small bag only contains 150 calories. I prefer the original kind but there are tons of different flavors if you’re wanting something with a more flavorful taste.
Strawberries and Whipped Cream
The perfect dessert if you’re on a tight budget! I would always feel really guilty after eating cone after cone of ice cream in the dining hall. (It’s so hard to resist since it’s right there!) Fresh strawberries dipped in some low fat whipped cream is the perfect snack if you’re looking for something light, and sweet.
Velveeta Instant Mac and Cheese
I was actually introduced to this from one of my roommates my freshman year. My suitemate’s mom made us all care packages and included a small instant cup of it in our packages. One of my favorite snacks of all time just because of how yummy the cheese is. Unlike Kraft, Velveeta uses actual liquid cheese instead of cheese powder in products, so it tastes more real and extra yummy. If you’re looking for a healthier option, they offer packs that use 2% milk instead of whole milk.
Peanut Butter and Celery
I love snacking on food that has a bit of a crunch to it, and that’s super cheap! I usually cut up a few celery stalks and throw a bit of peanut butter in a bowl and I’m good to go. I can munch on it while I’m studying for a test or just when I’m hungry and I want something that’s not super filling.
Ritz Cheese Crackers
These cheese crackers are seriously the best and so filling! I think I bought them nearly every two weeks because I was eating them so quickly. They were a great on the go snack when I was in a hurry to go somewhere and didn’t have a lot of time to eat. I was able to stick them in my backpack and pull them out when I was ready.
You can’t forget the chocolate. I would have just a small bag of Kisses stored away in my desk. My favorite chocolate I tried this last year was the Lindt Pineapple Excellence Bar. It’s basically pineapple covered in dark chocolate with hazelnut pieces inside. Sooooo delicious. I suggest anyone who loved chocolate covered fruit to give this a try.
Carnation Breakfast Essential Shakes
These saved my early mornings and gave me so much energy when I needed it. As I was getting ready for my 8 AM class I’d grab one and drink it on my walk to class. My favorite are the chocolate ones just because they taste like really rich chocolate milk.
I love clementines, especially the Cuties that are easy to peel. This was a snack I usually ate on the weekends when I was doing homework or watching my list of YouTube videos for the day. I’d grab my paper plate, my laptop and my Cuties and nibble on them throughout my day.
Beef Flavored Ramen
What dorm room isn’t complete without ramen! Cup Of Ramen was my go to if I slept through dinner or had a light lunch, and just really quick to make if I needed something to eat immediately.
