My first semester of college I missed several assignment due dates for stupid reasons! Whether it was I forgot to pack my homework or I accidentally wrote the due date on the wrong day of my planner and never went back to change it. Homework may not be worth a lot of points in some classes, but for my classes, it was a huge deal! Almost my entire biology grade was based on doing the homework, and if I forgot it, my grade tanked! Through trial and error, I learned some great ways on how to never miss a due date again. Here are five ways to never miss a due date again!
Write Down All Your Due Dates Into Your Planner
At the beginning of every semester, you should get this wonderful piece a paper from your professor called a syllabus. The syllabus is legit my favorite thing about school because it literally tells you how to get great grades in your classes. It provides you with all your professor’s information plus all the assignments due that semester (if your professor has a schedule).
The minute you get that syllabus or your assignment schedule, write it all down in your planner! It’s such a helpful thing having all your assignments in one place so you can plan ahead for tests and when you should start working on big projects and papers. I also always try to set reminders in my planner too, so two weeks before a test I write a reminder in green, and then a week before the test I write it in orange, and the day of the test I mark that in red! That way I know I can start planning ahead for these things!
Write Assignments Down In Multiple Places “Planner, Notebook, Phone”
I always write my assignments down in my planner, but in case I don’t have that handy with me, I write my assignments down in several places. So I have my semester schedule in my planner, weekly assignments in my notebook, and assignments I have to work on that night in my notes on my phone. That way I always know what’s due at any given time so in case I don’t have certain schedules or things with me.
Make An Assignment Schedule
Each week, make an assignment schedule of everything you have to complete by then. This is a great way to make sure you aren’t scrambling at 3 AM to turn in a paper at 8 AM. It’s so easy to lose track of time during the week, and this way by sticking to a schedule each week, you don’t have to rush to finish ten assignments in one day. Instead, work on a few every day for an hour so you don’t overwhelm yourself!
Set Early Deadlines
Life happens sometimes. You have emergencies come up or you get sick, or for some reason, your time is cut short that week. Something I like to do is to set early deadlines. Say on Friday I have a book review due in my literary magazine class that day. Instead of finishing it the day of, I set an early deadline that I should have it done by Wednesday night, just in case for some reason something should come up where I can’t complete it. Setting deadlines like this assures that every assignment you have will be done on time.
Pack Everything The Night Before Class
I have days where I have ALL my homework is done and ready for the next day. Class arrives the next day and I realize I forgot to put all my homework for that day in my backpack because I was working on it so late! Before you go to bed, always pack your homework and your books that night so you don’t forget them. This way you can just grab your bag and head to class. This saves you valuable time in the morning and keeps your head at ease knowing that you have everything you need for the day!
