It’s finals week for me and even though I don’t have many finals this year, I can’t wait for it all to be over. The library is so sad and depressing and I never get to see any of my friends because they’re at the library! Although studying is great, don’t be afraid to take a few breaks here and there to keep yourself sane. Feeling overwhelmed? Take a break and use some of my de-stressing methods!
Eat Your Favorite Meal
Something that makes me feel a lot better when I’m stressed and worried about finals is splurging on my favorite meal. Except I don’t exactly splurge on a $5 box at KFC aka my favorite fast food restaurant EVER. There’s just something really comforting about mashed potatoes and fried chicken. Who knew. Instead of eating a bowl of instant mac and cheese for lunch, go to your favorite restaurant and unwind! Treat yourself! I always feel better after eating any ways so go out and conquer the world when you’re done and ready!
Spend Some Time With Friends
I spend so much time studying and focusing on school, I forget I have friends sometimes. Being around people I know makes me feel so much better around this time of year because I know they’re struggling just as much as I am. Whether you go out and spend a few hours at the movies or even just study with other people, try and get some social interaction to make you feel sane again.
Watch A Movie/Netflix
Watching a movie is a great way to relax your brain after a long day of studying. This is a great time to watch movies as well since it’s the holiday season!! Put in your favorite Christmas movie, slip into your favorite jammies and chill out.
Wear Your Comfiest Outfit
Although leggings are something I wear on a day to day basis, they aren’t always the most comfortable thing to wear. Whenever I’m ready to settle down, I slip into my favorite flannel pajamas and fuzzy socks to warm me up. When I want to feel a little extra cozy, I’ll throw them in the dryer to heat them up!
Take A Walk
Spending hour after hour inside may make you feel a little stuffy. Take a breather and take a walk outdoors. It’s currently very chilly in Missouri right now, but sometimes being out in the cold can help perk you up and get your mind back up and running. Even a short five-minute walk around campus is a great start!
Go To A Coffee Shop
I’m a big coffee drinker, and nothing makes me feel better than a peppermint mocha on a cold day. Sit down in a comfy armchair and enjoy a hot drink!
Take A Long Hot Shower
Nothing makes me feel better than a hot shower after a long day, especially if it’s been a gross and sweaty one. I don’t know about you guys, but the buildings on campus have cranked their heat up to about 100 degrees. So I pretty much have to wear short sleeves all year round. Climbing into the shower makes me feel so clean and ready to conquer the rest of my day.
Listen To Music
Sometimes a song is just that thing you need to get you in the mood to study and motivate you for finals week. Whenever I’m feeling low or unconfident about how I’m doing, I pull up some really upbeat songs to relax me and motivate me to get some more studying done. Eye of the Tiger is a personal favorite of mine to get me back into the swing of things.
Call Your Parents
My finals this year aren’t too stressful, but last semester they definitely were. One thing I found that always made me feel better was calling my parents to help me get my mind off things. They were always so encouraging of what I was doing and making me feel like I was doing a great job and that they’d be proud of me no matter what the end results are.
Stretch Or Workout
Sitting in the same spot for hours on end can make you feel a bit cramped up. Take a moment to get out of your seat and stretch it out to loosen your muscles.
Surf The Internet
One of my favorite things to do to take a break from finals is to surf the web! I watch a few YouTube videos, check Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram just to remind myself there is life outside of studying!
Take A Nap
If your brain needs a literal rest, nothing can cure that better than a long nap. It’s okay to take a break for a few hours, and hopefully, you’ll feel nice and refreshed when you wake up!
If I know I’ve worked hard, I gift myself with a treat or two, whether that be buying a necklace I saw at the mall a week before or a cute scarf! If you’ve been on the books for a while and seem to be making some progress, go reward yourself!
